Show-cause notices slapped on makers of Pratyusha film

- STAFF REPORTER

A city court on Tuesday issued show cause notices to makers of the short film reportedly based on the life of slain actress Pratyusha Banerjee. This comes after the makers released the short film despite a stay by the court.

The court has issued notices to actress Kamya Punjabi who has directed the film along with Neru Shah, the producer of the film. The court has sought their response as to why the duo should not be held for contempt for breaching the court’s orders.

Punjabi and Shah’s film ‘Hum Kuch Keh Na Sake’ is stuck in a legal spat as Pratyusha’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh had approached the court last week. He had sought stay on the release of the film contending that the same has made an attempt to show him in “poor” light. He also claimed that this film could prejudice the trial against him.

Confirming the news, advocate Shreyansh Mithare, representing Singh, said, “The court had stayed the film last week but still the makers chose to breach the orders and released the film. I brought it to the court’s notice that the film was released and I even furnished the statements of Kamya Punjabi wherein she publicly stated that she would go ahead with the film’s release.”

“Taking my submissions on record, the court issued show cause notices against both Punjabi and Shah. The court has even asked them to remain personally present in the court on the next date of hearing,” Mithare added.

The matter has been posted for further hearing on April 7.
