It is not for the first time that the police have disguised themselves as courier boys, shoe polishers and even porters to crack cases.

An undercover team from the Mira Road police station led by PSI Mahesh Kuchekar in true filmy style disguised as tribals to went to Bihar to nab a fugitive who had remained elusive for six long years after clubbing his employer to death in 2011.

According to the police, a farmer identified as Rajbahadur Chauhan (55) was found murdered in the vegetable fields alongside the railway tracks near Geeta Nagar in Bhayandar (E) on 2, September, 2011. Investigations ascertained the involvement of Krishna Paswan (40) who worked as a daily wage labourer in Rajbahadur’s fields.

Despite several attempts, Paswan could not be traced and the case failed to reach its logical end. After recent directions from Thane (rural) SP Dr. Mahesh Patil, Sr. PI Jagdish Shinde formed special squads to deal with unsolved cases and fugitive criminals. Fresh groundwork for reinvestigations by PSI Kuchekar and police personnel Bramhane led to information about the current whereabouts of the fugitive in a remote village in Bihar.

With the help of their local counterparts, the Mira Road police reached Bihar and posed as local villagers to apprehend Paswan from a road construction site in Bhaduar village in Patna district.

“The accused confessed of hammering his employer in a fit of rage as he was flatly refused his pending wages,” said an investigating officer. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered against the accused who was brought to the city on Tuesday and will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
