Sena chief dismissed corporation’s draft DP
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray dismissed the Development Plan (DP) of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). While addressing a meeting with party corporators, Thackeray instructed to reject the draft DP when it is expected to be tabled at the general body meeting of BMC for approval.
The DP-2034 is the blueprint of the city’s infrastructure development for the next two decades. The draft DP was put on public domain for suggestions and objections from the common man as well as from developers and other stakeholders.
According to a BMC official, a six-member planning committee was formed during the former Mayor Snehal Ambekar’s regime and it had submitted a draft DP. “The committee had also recommended 2,245 changes in draft DP and it has to take approval of the general body before submitting it to the state government,” the official said. After Yashodhar Phanse and Trushna Vishwasrao, the Sena members of planning committee who lost in the elections, their party now has no senior member who are aware of the details of the draft DP. On the other hand, in new general body of corporators, more than 50% corporators are unaware about the plan.
Sena leader from BMC said that they want to study the plan and to propose some changes to the draft DP.
“We want the state government to give us an extension to study the DP in details. We have informed this to the party president and he is likely has dismiss the draft DP,” he claimed.
Meanwhile, Thackeray also demanded the state should keep sovereignty of BMC intact even after Goods and Service Tax (GST) is imposed. “The revenue from octroi will stop after GST is applicable. Hence, state has to take care to transfer compensation from Centre to BMC directly,” said Thackeray. He directed party legislators to raise this issue in the special session to be held on May 20 for ratifying State Goods and Service Tax.
He also directed party legislators to reach to the people of Marathwada, Vidarbha, North Maharashtra and Konkan to meet farmers.
Asked about probability of mid-term poll, Thackeray said his party is ready for it even today.
