Commissioner refuses to extend flyover up to Link Road
Motorists expecting to be relieved of traffic bottlenecks at Rammandir junction will continue to suffer as Ajoy Mehta, Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has refused to extend the Mrinal Gore flyover till link road, Goregaon.
The first phase of the flyover has been constructed from Goregaon east hub mall and ends at Rammandir SV Road, while the second phase was to connect the link road.
BJP corporator Sandeep Patel slammed Mehta for rejecting the extension plan. Patel alleged Mehta has rejected it without valid reason.
“Without giving any valid reasons for not continuing the extension work of flyover the commissioner rejected the proposal. He feels there is no need of extension of flyover as few vehicles ply on this road. This is surprising.”
Residents of Oshiwara (west) and Goregaon link road have to spend five to six hours in traffic as the entire Western Express Highway is chocked with vehicles.
For rejecting the second phase work the commissioner also has to take the standing committee members into confidence. “I raised objection to the commissioner’s denial and other party corporators supported me as everybody is well aware how people have to suffer,” he added.
BMC Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, in the general body meeting, has asked the commissioner to pay a second visit along with representatives of Goregaon to understand the menace.
