Fadnavis pats MBMC head, staff for outstanding work
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday felicitated administrative officers and office bearers of civic bodies who performed outstandingly in their respective cities this year at a state level convention held in the city. For Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), its chief Naresh Gite and Mayor Geeta Jain were among the award recipients for their dedicated efforts in the time-bound and effective completion of the 75 MLD water supply scheme. Scheduled for completion within 20 months, Fadnavis himself had inaugurated the pipeline laying work in October 2015. But the project landed into troubled waters on the issue of getting various clearances from departments concerned. Later, the project was put on fast track mode after Gite tactfully managed to clear some of the major hurdles and completed part of the work before time.
The project has started releasing 25MLD. The rest will be released in a controlled manner later this year. Significantly, the state administration has urged other civic bodies to keep MBMC as their ideal and replicate its time-bound performances. From laying a network of pipelines measuring 80 kms to online booster pumps and elevated storage reservoirs, the Rs.269crore project, under the Nagarothan Mahabhiyan, comprises a master plan overhauling of the entire internal pipe networking system of the twin-city.
