ED seizes Mallya’s farm house worth Rs 100 cr in Maharashtr­a

The Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED) on Thursday has taken possession of a farm house of beleaguere­d liquor baron Vijay Mallya in connection with its money laundering probe against him. The property, spread over 17 acres, is located in Mandwa of Maharashtr­a’s Raigad district.

The ED officials have pasted the possession orders on the farm house.

“This property belongs to Mandwa Farms Pvt. Ltd which was being controlled by Vijay Mallya. The eviction notice was issued to them on April 25, 2017 for vacating the property,” reads the press note issued by ED.

Earlier, the ED had provisiona­lly attached this property adjoining beach having registry value of Rs 25 crores (approx) vide Provisiona­l Attachment on September 03 last year under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The market value of this property is over Rs 100 crore, according to the ED press note.

“The Provisiona­l Attachment Order was confirmed by the PMLA Adjudicati­ng Authority New Delhi on February 22, 2017. Subsequent to the issuance of the eviction notice, Mandwa Farms Pvt. Ltd moved the Appellate Tribunal of PMLA for stay against the eviction notice,” reads the press note.

However, the Appellate Tribunal dismissed the applicatio­n of Mandwa Farms Pvt. Ltd on May 16, 2011 and the peaceful possession of the property was taken on May 18.
