‘Withdraw illegal toll at airport’
Shiv Sena on Friday opposed GVK company’s collection of “illegal” toll tax from vehicles at the entry point of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). Sena asked the company to withdraw the toll tax and warned that any delay to do so will attract a Sena style agitation.
Shiv Sena’s Member of State Legislative Council (MLC) and advocate Anil Parab has written a letter to the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) about how the GVK company has being charging “illegal” toll tax amounting Rs. 130 from all vehicles entering the Mumbai International Airport.
In the meantime, conflicting reports came in from MIAL. Though the MIAL spokesperson was not available for comments, a MIAL official remarked that the company has so far not received any letter from the Sena in this regard.
Parab, on the other hand, in his letter which was released to the media argued that besides the illegal toll tax being charged, the company under its agreement was also levying parking charges from all the vehicles entering the international airport.
Arguing that not all the vehicles coming to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport stop at the airport, Parab said the tax is causing great distress to people who had to pass through the airport. He added those people who are not halting at the airport are being needlessly harassed.
The Sena MLC called upon the GVK company to shut down the toll tax check post without any delay. The MIAL is joint venture between GVK company and Airports Authority of India (AAI).
