City students shine in CBSE Class 10, topper scores 99.6%

Best in Trivandrum, boys slightly better than girls

CBSE on Saturday announced its Class 10 examinatio­n results with Mridula Subramanya­m emerging as the city’s topper with 99.6% marks even as state board students are still waiting for their results.

Around 16,60,123 students appeared from 16,347 schools from different states of the country for the examinatio­ns conducted in March-April this year. At least 60 schools in Mumbai are affiliated to the CBSE and students received both grades and percentage­s for their performanc­es.

This year, the pass percentage dipped by more than 5% country wide. While it was 96.21% last year, the pass percentage for this year stood at 90.95%.

Mridula Subramanya­m, a student of Apeejay School at Nerul, scored 99.6 per cent. “I solved papers and study in the morning so that I could get adequate sleep. I want to become a Chartered Accountant (CA) and will pursue the commerce stream,” she told the Free Press Journal.

Aayush Shah, a student of Sheth Karamshi Kanji English School (SKKE) at Mulund (West), scored 99.4 per cent. Shah said, “I was not expecting such high marks. I followed a normal pattern of studying regularly. I want to pursue engineerin­g.”

Neer Savla, a student from the same SKKE School, scored 99.2 per cent. “I balanced my studies with a little of outdoor playing in order to beat the stress,” Savla said.

Another student, Swati Rastogi of Lok Puram Public School, Thane (West) scored 99 per cent. “Swati did a lot of hard work to score this percentage. She will choose her own career and we will support in her decision,” Swati’s father said.

The pass percentage this year was highest in Trivandrum at 99.85 followed by Chennai at 99.62 and Allahabad at 98.23 per cent. In the capital Delhi, it dipped by around 13 per cent this year.

Unlike last year, the number of boys who passed the examinatio­n is slightly more than girls. A total of 93.4 per cent boys who appeared for the examinatio­n passed as against 92.4 per cent girls this year. Moreover, of the 4,254 differentl­y abled students who appeared this year, 3,803 of them passed the examinatio­n. After the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results, students of the Maharashtr­a Board Secondary School Certificat­e (SSC) are eagerly waiting for their Class 10 results.
