- STAFF REPORTER

Central Railway has enabled complete cashless transactions by introducing point-of-sales (POS) machines at three stations on Mumbai division. These POS machines will help commuters move around without cash after using their debit or credit cards at Passenger Reservation System (PRS), Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), luggage, parcel and food stalls at these stations.

The railway commuters can use their mobile wallet, debit and credit cards at stations like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Thane stations.

“We had a target of enabling cashless transaction at three stations on every division. We achieved this target on June 30 and are putting more efforts to bring cashless transactions on others railway divisions on the Central line,” said a central railway official.

Commuters were positive about the move and said it can reduce the hassle amongst their rights from ticket booking to actual commuting. Chirag Joshi, a railway commuter at CST station said, “The cashless transaction in the form of mobile wallet can also come out with reward points for daily commuters. It can give us various benefits with other Reliance projects like Big Cinemas Entertainment, JIO cards and other facilities.”

The Central Railway officials have also instructed private contractors to make more facilities like Paytm to enable digital transactions at the stations. Several divisions like Pune, Solapur, Bhusaval and Nagapur are also promoting cashless transactions.
