Guv gives Mumbai univ V-C deadline for results
Taking serious cognisance of the delay in declaration results by the University of Mumbai, the Governor of Maharashtra who is also the Chancellor of the university, C.H. Vidyasagar Rao, on Tuesday directed ViceChancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh to declare all pending results by July 31. The Governor has also asked the Vice-Chancellor to submit a detailed report on the strategy to ensure that results are out on time.
The Governor also directed the Vice-Chancellor to set up a team that will monitor the process by which results are declared on time. The V-C has been asked to marshal all the human resources and infrastructure at his command so that the task is completed. What’s more, the V-C will have to submit a daily progress report to the Chancellor’s secretariat.
The state government, too, has been brought into the picture. Additional Chief Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Sitaram Kunte will have to depute a representative who will follow the process and report back to the government and the Chancellor’s office.
Out of the 477 examinations conducted by the university, results of only 51 exams have been declared so far. Out of the ones whose results have been declared, only 23 stuck to the schedule of 30 days. The rest of the results were out in 45 days. According to Section 89 of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, results have to be declared preferably within 30 days, but in no case should this be stretched beyond 45.
On Tuesday, the Governor held a meeting with the ViceChancellor on the issue. Also present were Additional Chief Secretary of Higher and Technical Education and the Governor’s secretary, Venugopal Reddy. The Governor was on the view that delay in declaring results would impact the career of students.
