Mumbai students top CA final examinations

- RONALD RODRIGUES ● Mumbai

It is good news for city students as the All India Topper and third rank holder in the Chartered Account (CA) final exam are students from Mumbai. Students from the city outshone other states of India in the Chartered Account (CA) final exam and the Common Proficiency Test (CPT), which is an entry-level test for pursuing the chartered accountancy course, results that were declared on Tuesday.

Raj Paresh Sheth, a student from Dombivli, bagged the All-India First Rank by scoring 630 marks out of 800 (78.75%). While Krishna Pawan Gupta, a student from Goregaon, secured the third rank and scored 601 marks out of 800 (75.13%). The second rank was secured by Agathiswaran S, a student from Vellore in Tamil Nadu, who scored 602 marks out of 800 (75.25%).

Both the toppers from Mumbai did not expect such a result. Sheth said, “I did not expect that I would top the examination. I prepared for my CA exam while I was pursuing my graduation degree of Bachelor of Commerce (B Com).” Sheth cleared the examination in his first attempt and followed a regular pattern of studying daily.

Gupta wants to make his career in the field of finance and wishes to take up a job. Gupta said, “My next step is to take up a job in the finance sector so that I get first-hand knowledge about the field. I dedicated four and a half months for my preparation and this result is totally unexpected. I am pursuing this course since the last three to four years.”

Gupta believed that CA is an important field and more students should opt for it as a career option. “Our country needs more chartered accountants considering the current issues like GST (Goods and Services Tax) and demonetisation. Every company needs financial assistance so CA as a career option is the need of the hour,” Gupta said.

Around one lakh students appeared for the final exam which was conducted in May 2017. Of these 10,276 candidates have qualified as chartered accountants this year.
