Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s great-grandson booked for rape

PUNE: Congress leader Rohit Tilak, who is the greatgrand­son of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, has been booked for allegedly raping a woman and forcing her into“unnatural” sex, police said. The case was registered against him on Monday night. Rohit is the great-grandson of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak and grandson of Jayantrao Tilak, who was a senior Congress leader and MP. The police said the complainan­t and Rohit knew each other for a couple of years. —

Another FIR, under the newly enacted Social Boycott Act, has been lodged against 25 members of a caste council in Pune within 24 hours since the first FIR was lodged in Pune. Six members of a family in Pune have lodged an FIR against members of their caste council for boycotting them.

Five members of Rambhau Laxman Lokhande family of Vaidu, tribal community, have lodged an FIR against 25 members of Vaidu Caste Council in Pune for boycotting them from the community for more than three years under the Social Boycott (Prevention, Prohibitio­n and Redressal) Act 2016 on Tuesday at Sangvi police station, Pune.

This is the second FIR under the Social Boycott Act that came into existence on July 3, 2017. On Monday, 11 families of Telugu Madelwar Parit community had lodged an FIR, which is the first FIR under the Act, against their caste council in Kondhwa police station in Pune. Alka Sarad, assistant police inspector, said, “Lokhande family has lodged an FIR against 25 people.”
