- STAFF REPORTER

The Navi Mumbai police arrested a 20-year-old man for the murder of a woman whose decapitated body was found on Palm Beach road in Nerul on Monday morning.

Imran Khuddesh Salmani has been arrested by the Non Resident Indian coastal police for the murder of Mariyam Abdul Rahim Shaikh (22). The motive behind the murder was onesided love from Salmani. On Sunday, when Salmani learnt that the deceased Shaikh was engaged to another suitor, he planned to kill her.

Both the accused Salmani and the deceased Shaikh were working at Graceful hair cutting and beauty parlour (shop number 3) at Moreshwar apartment at Sector 44 at Seawood in Navi Mumbai.

The decapitated body of Shaikh was found in a maroon trolley bag along with the severed head stuffed inside the bag. The trolley bag was spotted by Mahendra Sadashiv Tandel at his farm on Monday morning. Tandel immediately informed the police.

During investigations, the NRI coastal police received a tip off that Shaikh was working at the beauty parlour. A team was dispatched to the beauty parlour to gather more information about Shaikh.

According to Hemant Nagrale, the commissioner of Navi Mumbai, “Salmani has confessed to the crime. The accused was in love with Shaikh and he wanted to marry her. When he came to know on Sunday that Shaikh was engaged to somebody else, in a fit of rage he killed her on the same night. After killing her, Salmani chopped off her head and stuffed the body in a trolley bag at the nearby farm.”

As per the CCTV footage of the parlour, Salmani had followed Shaikh on the night of the murder on Sunday after finishing work at the parlour. There were visible injury marks spotted on his head and neck. The police believe that Shaikh must have fought back in an attempt to save herself due to which there were injuries on Salmani.

Shaikh was a resident of Mohammed Rafique Nagar slum in Govandi. Shaikh was staying along with her parents Rahim and Munira. Salmani is a native of Balbhariya village in Uttar Pradesh.

The accused killed the woman to seek revenge for unrequited love close to where Sandhya Singh’s body was found on January 28,2013
