Samples of woman’s skeleton sent to Kalina for chemical analysis

Mumbai police have sent the samples of skeleton to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina for chemical analysis test to ascertain the exact cause and time of death of 63-year-old woman Asha Sahni, whose body was found by her NRI son in her Oshiwara apartment in a high-profile society of Lokhandwala complex in Andheri on Sunday afternoon.

“The body was completely decomposed. It was only skeleton, so her cause of death could not be ascertained in post-mortem,” said Subhash Khanvilkar, senior inspector of Oshiwara police station where the accidental death case is registered.

“The hospital has given us few samples of her body including the bone and hair. We have sent the samples to FSL, Kalina for its chemical analysis test,” he said.

The senior citizen lady was staying alone in her apartment after the demise of her husband in 2013. Her lone techie son Rituraj had moved to the USA in 1997.

Rituraj last contacted his mother in April 2016.

Residents of the society could smell the stench from the apartment where Asha Sahni is believed to have died almost seven to eight months ago. She was staying on the 10th floor.

“She has become the victim of urbanisation and modern society. There is no interaction among the occupants of the society. After their work and outings, people prefer staying locked in their air-conditioned room and hence no one could smell the stench of the decayed body,” one of the neighbours told the Free Press Journal.

However, police said that Rituraj is feeling guilty for the entire episode that has shocked everyone.
