Altogether 2,705 students have not been allotted seats in the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admission process so far and they will now be considered in a special merit round. These students can fill a new application form online on August 10, 11 and 12 and apply for the round. They will be allotted seats depending on the availability in various colleges.

Over 2.46 lakh students applied or the FYJC admission process this year and more than 98 per cent of them have been allotted seats after the final merit list was announced last weekend. These 2,705 students were not allotted seats in any college in any of the four merit rounds. They were distressed as they did not receive a text message stating on the allotment of seat in a particular college.

The aggrieved students then approached the state education department office with their complaints. One of the students said, “I listed various average colleges in my preference but still I have not received a message.”

The state education department has taken responsibility for these students’ admission. On Tuesday, parents and students who thronged the department’s office were assured that the students will be given first priority and hence the special merit round.

There are over 50,000 vacant seats in various junior colleges now. B B Chavan, Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai region, said, “The students can fill the online form and apply for the admission on those given dates. They will be allotted seats and every student will get admission.”

The data of vacant seats and the cut-off percentage of various colleges will be updated on the admission website on Wednesday.

A senior official of the state education department said, “These students can then fill the new online forms accordingly by checking the availability of seats and cut-off percentages. Apart from these, there are other students who have not been admitted yet and their admission process will be decided as per the directions from the state government.”
