After two deadlines missed, MU yet to declare law results
Only one or two teachers are assessing the answer scripts of the law course every day due to which the Mumbai University (MU) has not declared a single result of the course till date. This has slowed down the paper correction even though there are few answer sheets in the law course as there are just three major courses in the entire stream.
Out of the total 94,746 answer scripts of the law course, 76,449 answer scripts are evaluated while 18,297 are pending. These answer scripts include three courses like the threeyear Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB), Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) for five years and Master of Laws (LLM). In addition, there are less number of students in the course as compared to other courses like commerce.
Although not a single result of the law course is declared, sources in the MU revealed that only one or two teachers are assessing papers on a daily basis.
A senior official said, “There are just one or two teachers who are actually assessing papers on a daily basis. It is surprising to see that though there are few students, few courses and few answer sheets yet the university has not managed to announce a single result.”
The MU had stated that lack of teachers in the law course is the reason for the delay of the results.
Ashok Yende, Director of Law Academy of the MU, said, “The university should declare the results of the law course as the students are waiting to pursue higher education, secure admissions for the same or apply for various job opportunities. There has always been a dearth of teachers in this course as a large number of them are practising lawyers and professionals.”
Out of the total 477 examinations, 289 results have been declared while results of 188 examinations were pending till Tuesday evening. The Bombay University and College Teachers Organisation (BUCTO) collected signatures of students on two banners that will be submitted to the Chancellor’s office as a mark of protest over the results delay.
