Vikhroli school faces safety issues

- STAFF REPORTER

Students of St Joseph High School at Vikhroli have been facing safety and security issues due to traffic congestion outside the school premises. The school authorities have refused to place barricades despite the barricades being organised by the parents and members of the adjoining church.

The school is situated at a congested spot where there is an autorickshaw stand just opposite the school and also the Vikhroli railway station. The parents stated that in the past the students faced several mishaps due to this congestion as there is very limited space between the school gate and the autorickshaw stand. Therefore, the parents along with members of the church had placed these barricades to avoid any harm but the school authorities have refused to use it.

The parents stated that the students are at high risk especially during the school leaving hours when everybody rushes towards the road outside the gate. A parent said, “There are school buses, auto rickshaws, buses of corporate companies and also a large crowd of people who use the road outside the school gate. There are four barricades that are present but the school authorities are not ready to place them. If the barricades are placed there will be a systematic and safe path for children.”

The school authorities denied the need for these barricades. Fr Sachin Lopez, principal of the school, said, “The parents have not approached me regarding this matter.”

The parents also organised a signature campaign for this matter but the school has denied having received any complaints from parents.
