MUMBAI: Six teams from Mumbai will be participat­ing in the pre-qualifying round (Maharashtr­a leg), of the IWL (Indian Women’s League), which is scheduled to commence at the Cooperage ground, from Monday, August 14, 2017. The participat­ing teams are MDFA Women’s League champions, Football Leaders Academy, Bodyline SC, Kenkre FC, PIFA Sports Club, Football School of India and Rush Soccer. The Pre-Qualifiers League, to be organised by WIFA, will be played on a double leg basis and the winners’ will get a direct entry to the qualifying round, which is scheduled to be held later next month. MUMBAI: Midfielder Tanishq Adrian, proved to be the star performer as St. Pius X, Mulund pulled through defeating Don Bosco ‘B’, Matunga 1-0 in a well-contest Boy’s Under-16 Div-II semi-final, played at the Cooperage ground on Thursdayaf­ternoon. The 14-year-old Tanishq struck the crucial goal from a powerful free-kick in the 45th minute of the 60minute match. The win for the Mulund boys proved bad for Don Bosco as it dented their chances of winning another title. They Don Bosco ‘A’ team had recently triumphed over Campion School in the First Division final last Saturday. Meanwhile, Bombay Scottish, Mahim outplayed St. Lawrence, Borivali coasting to a 3-0 win after lead 2-0 at the break, in the second semi-final played later in the afternoon. MUMBAI: Tiny built Yash Modi, a 13-year-old, made a terrific impact while making winning debut in the junior boys singles as he ousted fancied Dhruv Das 3-2 to breeze into the junior boys singles quarterfin­als in the JVPGC-All-Mumbai 4-star ranking table tennis tournament, hosted by Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana. He started with a bang and gave his rival no time to settle down to go one-up. But he erred in the second to let Dhruv fight back .The fighter in Yash came to the fore in the third game as he hit hard on both flanks to lead 2-1. The fourth game was saw both fighting tooth and nail before Das clinched it over extra points. The decider, however, saw Yash keeping his nose ahead before he triumphed 11-3, 6-11,11-5, 10-12, 11-9.
