Two firemen, one NDRF official hurt in rescue ops

Two firemen and a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) official were injured in the Hussaini building collapse at Bori mohallah at Pakmodia street on Thursday.

The incident took place at 8:15 a.m. The first call was made to the fire brigade at 8:30 a.m.

Fire brigade officer Prashant Gajbare(30), was operating the drilling machine during the rescue operation at Hussaini building when a part of the pillar of the building fell on him resulting in head injuries.

Speaking to the Free Press Journal, Gajbare who has been admitted at ward number 18 at Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy hospital said, “I was operating the drilling machine to rescue trapped persons inside the debris, when a part of the pillar fell on me. I felt dizzy and the fire brigade officials brought me to hospital. I am thankful to God for saving my life.”

Another fire brigade officer Tatoba Patil (52) who rescued four residents with the help of his colleague Gajbhar was also injured.

Patil said, “I was operating the drilling machine when a beam of the building suddenly fell on my chest and left hand. For a few seconds, I just did not know what was happening to me. I am undergoing a lot of pain. I have been feeling dizzy since morning.”

According to Dr. Tatyarao Lahane, Dean of Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy hospital, “Patio has suffered chest trauma and left limb numbness. Gajbare is suffering from chest tenderness and multiple chest abrasions.

Mahesh Nalawade (35), an NDRF official, was also injured in the rescue operation and admitted at OPD of JJ hospital.

He was discharged by late evening on Thursday after treatment. His right hand got hurt during the rescue operation.
