Central Railways to operate smoothly only from Monday

- STAFF REPORTER

There is no end to woes for commuters travelling on the Central Railway (CR) as they will have to wait until Monday to see smooth operation of the local train services. At least 22 local train services on CR are still not operational after at least 35 local trains were marooned due to waterlogging on railway tracks during Tuesday’s deluge.

“The local trains were marooned after rain water seeped into equipment like traction motor, gear box and motor suspension of the trains. This caused the train services on the central line to be suspended on Tuesday,” said Ravinder Goyal, Divisional Railway Manager of CR.

At least 12-inch water collected on the railway tracks which caused the rain water to seep into the trains’ equipment. The local trains are under maintenance at the Kurla car-shed.

Out of the total 122 local train services, which are run on a daily basis, about 100 could be operated on Thursday. Railway authorities have assured that all local CR train services will run smoothly from Monday.

“We will begin operating at least five more local train services from Thursday evening. The workers at the car shed are working round the clock to bring the services on track,” added a CR official.

Local services have also been suspended from Titwala and Kasara as the rerailment work of nine coaches of Duronto Express
