Swabhimani Sanghatana withdraws support to NDA
Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) has pulled out support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led union government. The decision to pull out from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was taken in the state executive committee meeting of SSS on Wednesday held in Pune. The meeting was chaired by Raju Shetti, Member of Parliament and the chief of SSS. Shetti’s SSS has also quit from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena alliance government at the state.
Shetti, who has given threat to quit from the government for several times, took decision after around three months of his threats. “The decision of Shetti was expected and it would not affect the Modi government in any manner,” said Rajeev Panday, national spokesperson of BJP.
In a meeting Shetti asked party workers whether they are willing to stay with government or want to quit? “If we will quit from the government, you will not get priority in government offices, your legal works for public purpose may stuck by the officials, you may harassed by the police,” Shetti informed party workers before taking final decision. He asked that whether they were ready to face the difficulties once they were no more in government. The party workers unanimously favoured Shetti’s suggestion to quit from the government in unity.
Shetti announced withdrawal from the union and the state government from that moment. Ravikant Tupkar, senior leader of the Swabhimani Shetakari Sanghatana and chairman of state run Maharashtra State Textile Corporation (MSTC) announced to resign from the post on September 4. Tupkar has status of minister of state and he was the member of the enquiry committee against Sadabhu Khot, minister of state for agriculture which later sacked Khot from the party.
Shetti has demanded to sack MoS Khot from the state cabinet claiming chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has inducted him as SSS leader. However, Chandrakant Patil, minister for revenue has already clarified that Khot has been elected as member of state legislative Council (MLC) as BJP member and not of SSS. “There is no question of sacking of Khot from state cabinet,” Patil had said earlier.
