‘Ganpati, deluge to blame for delayed results’

- NARSI BENWAL

Mumbai University has come up with some new reasons that it claims to have ‘further’ delayed the declaration of results. On Thursday, the University blamed the ongoing Ganpati festival and the heavy downpour for the deferment in announcing the results. The varsity informed the Bombay High Court that results of only some faculty is pending and the picture in this regard would be clear on September 6.

A division bench of Justice Anoop Mohta and Justice Bharati Dangre heard a batch of petitions highlighting the university’s ‘apathy’ in declaring results of hundreds of faculties. The petitions had cited the newly-introduced on-screen marking system for the delay in announcing results.

Advocate Rui Rodrigues, appearing for the varsity, furnished faculty-wise details of the number of results that have been cleared and the results that are still pending.

Interestingly, Rodrigues also blamed the Ganpati festival and the deluge that had brought the city to its knees, as reasons for the further delay in announcement of results. He said, “There was a deluge on Tuesday because of which teachers could not reach the correction centres. Also, several teachers have gone for vacations on account of Ganpati festival that has slowed down the correction work.”

“Moreover, there is a poor internet facility and our server has also crashed. All this have together delayed the work of announcing results. However, we have outsourced a server and we would soon display the results of courses that are cleared,” Rodrigues added.

The varsity has also come up with a mechanism to help students who are facing problems in the admission process as they have not received their results. Rodrigues told the judges that the varsity would be issuing a ‘gazette’ stating that students can fill in their marks (displayed on the website) on a broadsheet provided by the education department and upload the same along with their admission forms.

Meanwhile, the State Common Entrance Test (CET) for law admissions, was asked by the HC to extend their deadline for form submissions till September 6. However, the CET has clearly told the court that it cannot extend a single day more than September 6, as it has already extended the deadline six times.
