Apps that are making roads safer in India
From minimising distraction from cellphones to dispatching quick response teams, here are apps and services that make taking the wheel a little safer
Safely Home
Price: Free Available on: Android In an emergency situation, Safely Home automatically alerts the police, ambulance and the user’s emergency contacts. By leveraging location tracking, the app can monitor speed and movement to detect road crashes. It also provides roadside assistance for a variety of issues including breakdowns and running out of fuel, displaying the closest mechanics, petrol pumps and so on.
One Touch Response
Price: Rs 699/year to Rs 999/year Available on: Android and iOS Like the name implies, with a touch of a button, using location tracking, this safety app dispatches an assistance team to help users handle emergency situations. One of the features it offers is ‘on road assistance’. In the event of an accident, the service dispatches their own team and coordinates with the police and emergency services to ensure that evacuation and medical attention reaches the site as soon as possible. This service is currently available in Delhi-NCR.
HumSafar Road Safety
Price: Free Available on: Android Developed by a bureaucrat in Rajasthan, the HumSafar Road Safety app aggregates the details of hospitals, police stations, ambulance services and other emergency services and sends out precise map locations. The idea is that, with a single click, a user will be able to quickly avail emergency services for themselves or others. The app is currently only functional in Rajasthan but the government has plans to eventually roll out the service across the country.
