ENJOY THE CHILL BUT WINTER IS YET TO SET IN

- STAFF REPORTER

Mumbaikars will be able to enjoy cool weather for two more days, even as the winter is yet to set in. Weather officials attributed this to the north easterly winds blowing from colder parts of the country.

“The Indian Meteorological Department recorded a minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius until Thursday. On Friday, IMD recorded a minimum of 21 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius,” said an IMD official.

The sudden drop in minimum temperatures since the past one week made many believe that winter has set in. “I am enjoying the pleasant weather for the past one week. It is chilly in the early morning and late at nights. I hope it stays this way for a longer time,” said Rahul Wadke, a Dombivali resident.

Mumbaikars will however have to wait for at least a week for temperatures to drop further. “The temperature is likely to drop by mid-December when winter is scheduled to set in,” said K S Hosalikar, Deputy Director-General, Western region, IMD.

From December 4, onwards, minimum temperature is set to rise as cyclonic storm (Ockhi) may move closer to the Arabian Sea in the next two days.

At present, the cyclonic storm is present around the northeast of Minicoy in Lakshadweep. The pathway of the storm shows it moving towards the Arabian Sea which is likely to increase minimum temperatures.

The minimum temperatures are set to increase by two degrees from Monday onwards.

“There will be cloudy skies due to the presence of the storm and sudden rise in minimum temperatures will also make the climate humid,” said an IMD official.
