Property buyers left in the lurch after server crashes

Technical fault at all the sub-registrar offices on Friday forced keen home buyers, agents to return

- STAFF REPORTER

At least hundreds of property buyers were left in lurch after the server at all the sub-registrar offices in the city crashed due to a technical fault.

Many people at these offices were forced to wait the entire day as the operations had stopped working post noon.

On Friday, the property buyers along with the agents had to wait till late in the evening at the registrar office in Worli only to return home with incomplete work. The agents who accompanied them said it becomes difficult to assure the buyers that their work would be completed in a single day.

“On Friday, the server was down for an entire day which forced the buyers to wait for two days and make an additional trip to the registrar office on Monday. At times, the biometric devices which include the finger print scanner also stops working due to connectivity issues. It takes at least an hour to complete the registration work which could be completed in ten minutes,” said Prashant Khedekar, a property agent . The property buyers said that the technical glitches in the server causes waste of time and money. “I am a working woman and had taken a day off from office in order to complete the registration process. I had come to the registrar office in Worli to register the purchase of a flat in Fort area. We waited since morning but our number was not called the entire day. I was forced to come again to complete the registration,” said Nina Salvi, a resident of Worli. Few property agents said the technical glitches in the server began after the documents of the property buyers were accepted online.

“The server was down even on the last week which delayed the work of registration and renewals. This problem keeps reoccurring due to some connectivity issues. Such technical problems arose only after the documents were accepted online,” Kuldeep Chavan, another property agent.

Replying to the repeated problem of technical snag, A S Satam, Joint Sub Registrar of Worli said, "On Friday, the server had crashed in all the sub registrar offices in the city. The wire which connects the State Data Centre (SDC) through which information of the property buyers are passed to our office had some problem. This caused the system to crash completely. We are now planning to upgrade the system in order to tackle the problem.”
