Two smugglers including Kenyan Airlines crew arrested from Hyatt hotel

The alert staff members of five star hotel helped Mumbai police to nab gold smugglers and recover over 22kg of gold worth Rs. 6.5 crore from their possession

The Mumbai police have arrested two smugglers from Hyatt hotel and recovered over 22 kilogram of gold worth Rs 6.5 crore from their possession on Sunday. One of the accused is crew of Kenyan Airlines, Abdalla Ali Said, who had arrived in Mumbai by flight KQ 210 from Nairobi on Sunday evening. Second accused is Ibrahim Ali Hussein who had reached Hyatt hotel to receive the smuggled gold from Said.

“During check-in at the five star hotel in Andheri (E) area the two foreign nationals, including a crew member of Kenyan airline, didn't co-operate with the security staff. One of them even went up without proper security check. The hotel staff followed and requested him to come down but the Kenyan national refused to comply. The suspicious movements of two men were noticed by hotel staff members who informed us. Acting on the tip off, we reached there at 8:30 pm and arrested the duo. We have recovered 22 kilogram of gold worth Rs. 6.5 crore from their possession. Later we handed them over to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs,” said Lata Sirsath, senior inspector of Sahar police station.

The Mumbai police have felicitated the hotel staff Vivek Vayadande, Manjit Singh and Vipul Mangale on Monday.

The duo have been booked under relevant sections of Customs Act and further investigations are underway.
