Oppn slams govt for contract awarded to tainted Wizcraft

-

The leaders of opposition mainly, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over awarding the contract of organising the investment summit to Wizcraft, a tainted event management company.

During the ‘Make In India’ conclave, in 2016, Wizcraft had organised a cultural event at Girgaum Chowpatty, where celebrities performed programmes and in the middle of a dance performance, due to defective electric circuit the stage caught fire. A First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against this company in 2016, for negligence and flouting of fire safety norms for a Make in India function.

Sachin Sawant, spokesperson of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee said, he will discuss the issue in legislative leaders meeting to discuss the strategy whether breach of privileged motion can be bring against Fadnavis.

Wizcraft will handle event management of the investment summit which is to be held between February 18 to 20 on Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) ground in Mumbai. Sawant, while addressing the media persons on Friday demanded to know why a company like Wizcraft which is blacklisted was being pushed and favoured.

“After this fire incident, Fadnavis had assured the Upper House of taking appropriate action against Wizcraft which would serve a lesson to all event organisers to adhere to strict standard operating procedures,” said Sawant. “Has the CM forgotten the assurance he gave to the House? Just saying that Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) had given the contract to this company is not enough,” Sawant said. He has demanded Fadnavis has to clarify the issue.

Nawab Malik, spokesperson of NCP too criticised Fadnavis for awarding the contract to Wizcraft. “What are the interests of this government and who are supporting this agency?” Malik asked.

Both Sawant and Malik slammed the government for failure to generate employment through the ‘Make in India’ conclave. “The figures of generating jobs for 35 lakh people is fake. First, Fadnavis and Desai has to publish the figures of actual investments that were realised through Make in India investment summit,” said Malik.
