WHAT: When you are on your way home after watching this show, there will come a moment when you’ll stop mid-way, look back at the evening and tell yourself this, “I learnt nothing today”. Rahul Subramania­n’s comedy solo Kal Main Udega is filled with unrelated topics, no transition­s, inconseque­ntial takes on critical subjects and also a bit of mildly bad dancing. A 60-minute fun ride of jokes which, like the name of the solo, is purely aimed at not making any sense, which coincident­ally also happens to be the purpose of life.

The word jalika is a Sanskrit term meaning a veil, a web, a net - and it symbolises the very essence of our piece. NCPA Recital: Benjamin Appl & Simon Lepper

WHAT: Symphony Orchestra of India 2018 presents Benjamin Appl (baritone) and Simon Lepper (piano) at NCPA. A rising star among lieder singers, baritone Benjamin Appl was a BBC New Generation Artist and an ECHO Rising Star artiste for the 2015/16 season, appearing in recital at major European venues. He became an exclusive SONY Classical recording artiste in May 2016 and won the Gramophone ‘Young Artist of the Year’ award in 2016. Simon Lepper regularly appears in recital with some of today’s leading artistes and is a professor of piano accompanim­ent at the Royal College of Music, London. Since 2003, he has been an official accompanis­t for the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competitio­n. Featuring songs by Schubert, Schumann, Poulenc, Greig, Strauss and more. Museum of Species in Danger

WHAT: Knowing today’s reality, it will not be wrong to say that safety and freedom of women is in danger. This play is a compilatio­n of monologues of women characters from mythology, modern India and from literary works as well. Most of the monologues are written and improvised by the actors themselves. The play attempts to sketch lives of women in India in great detail as to how moving in open spaces is vulnerable to their physical, mental and emotional health. The play has been inspired by the infamous 2012 Delhi gang rape case. WHEN: February 17, 7 pm onwards

Mr. Robinson & Night Must Fall @ NCPA

WHAT: Ithaka is the Official Theatre and Literary festival organised by the English Literature department of St. Xavier’s College. The play Mr. Robinson and Night Must Fall were the winners of Ithaka festival 2017.

MR. ROBINSON: From the outside, The Robinsons are the dream family - the father Frank, an accomplish­ed sergeant and respected member of the community, his dutiful wife, their spirited, smart 20-year-old son Timothy and his sweet sister Emma, only 14. But sometimes, it is those households which appear to be the most perfect that unravel in the worst of ways. The reality? Frank is an abusive alcoholic, Mrs. Robinson and Emma are suffocated by his patriarchy, and Timothy is unable to repair this unhealthy power struggle. Can things get better? Will things get better? Does anyone want them to get better?

NIGHT MUST FALL: The play is an adaptation of Emlyn Williams’ Night Must Fall. It is a murder mystery that attempts to capture a murderer’s mind at work and explore the fascinatio­n murder holds for the ordinary mankind. Six characters with their own flaws and limitation­s whose lives are intricatel­y intertwine­d with each other are sure to astound you and make you wonder what all the seemingly normal four walls of a house can hide.

Baithak Unplugged with Debasmita Bhattachar­ya

WHAT: For the last 12 years, Debasmita Bhattachar­ya has been receiving training from Buddhadev Dasgupta. She is an A-grade scholar of the ITC-Sangeet Research Academy, where she continues to learn from her illustriou­s guru. This programme will be fully acoustic without any amplificat­ion.

Midnight Cycling & Storytelli­ng: The Kimayagar of Bombay

WHAT: This midnight cycling tour will transcend you to the time when Bombay was a quaint little town under the British Raj. The story traces the life-journey of a young Gujarati boy who comes to Bombay to make a living, but his destiny had something else planned for him. From being one of the richest businessme­n in Bombay to becoming the most hated man, his life was nothing less than an adventure. They called him Kimayagar or a magician who could make money out of anything, who turned this dusty old town into a paradise city. In this midnight adventure, unravel a new side of Colaba and some of its iconic structures and how the “hero” of the story played a key role in their making.
