Man held for posing as cop, duping people
MUMBAI: The Mumbai crime branch unit 10 has arrested a man who posed as policeman and conned 25 victims to the tune of Rs 10 lakh. Rakesh alias Sagar Chandrakant Walmiki (28) has been arrested for personating a public servant (Section 170) and cheating (Section 420) of the Indian Penal Code. The complainant was lured by the victim on the pretext of offering her a job at Mantralaya. Walmiki had posed himself as a sub-inspector and told the victim that his father was a Senior Police Inspector with the Mumbai police. The victim has paid Rs 60000 to the victim. On March 12, the MIDC police at Andheri had received another complaint against Walmiki. Based on a tip-off, Walmiki was arrested on March 13 at night from Sanjay Gandhi society at Goregaon.
