The Byculla jail authorities have recorded the final statement of Indrani Mukerjea in drug overdose incident. Indrani met Inspector General of Prisons, Rajvardhan Sinha at his office on Monday. Sinha who has been conducting the inquiry will be submitting the final inquiry report to B K Upadhyay, Additional Director General of Prisons this week.

According to a jail official, “Indrani’s final statements have been recorded. The investigation report is to be submitted within two days. The statements of all escorts, jail inmates and staff have been recorded. Since Hinduja hospital's medical report is more reliable, our inquiry will be based on that. We will be forwarding the report to the Mumbai Police Commissioner. If any action is to be taken against anyone, necessary action will be taken by the police accordingly.”

On Monday evening, Indrani met Rajvardhan Sinha, Inspector General of Police (Prisons) for 20 minutes at his office. She was escorted by women police constables serving at the jail. According to B K Upadhyay, Additional Director General of Prisons, “The inquiry report will be submitted to me this week.”

Speaking to the Free Press Journal, Sanjay Baswat, SPI, Nagpada police station, “The inquiry report will be submitted to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and to the Home Department. If anything suspicious is found in the report, action will be taken against the accused.” On Thursday, the jail authorities had recorded the statement of Indrani’s husband Peter Mukerjea and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna. During the visits to the CBI court, Peter, Indrani and Sanjeev are ferried in the same police vehicle along with their escorts. Peter and Sanjeev have been lodged at the Arthur road jail. Indrani still continues to deny to the jail authorities regarding writing a letter to a woman police constable from Nagpada police station regarding any threat to her life after testifying against Karti Chidabaram in INX media case. She has also denied consuming any drugs.

It is yet to be ascertained regarding how Indrani got access to drugs and how a high level benzodiazepine was found in her urine sample.
