The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday demanded that the toll collection at the Airoli and Anand Nagar toll nakas should be stopped till the repair work on the Mumbra by-pass is completed.

The Mumbra by-pass is closed for the repair work by PWD department. The motorists have to take diversion worsening the traffic jam in these areas. Adding to the misery of the motorists, there are big ques at the toll plazas at Airoli and Anand Nagar toll nakas. The traffic diversions at Airoli, Shilfata is leading to major traffic jam. Therefore, the toll recovery should be stopped till the repair work is over, demanded NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad.

"We have been demanding the repair work on this road for many years. The flyover on this road is in a dangerous condition. The government finally has decided to repair the road and we are thankful for that. We were also demanding the widening of Kopri bridge and service bridges at Kharigao to Thane city, Saket to Rustomjee to avoid the traffic congestion. This traffic jam is a result of unplanned strategies of the government. Therefore, The government is responsible for this traffic congestion and the toll should not be recovered from motorists till the repair is over. The NCP activists will agitate at toll plazas from Moday,” warned Awhad.

"Earlier, the guardian minister Eknath Shinde had declared that the motorists will have to pay only one toll before the repair work starts, but the announcement remained only on paper. We demand that both the tolls should be avoided," said Awhad.
