Early start to online FYJC admissions

- STAFF REPORTER

Students who appeared for their Class 10 board exams can apply for admission to First Year Junior College from Thursday. For the first time, the online admission process to FYJC will begin early -- from May 10.

Students can use their user ID or login ID and password to apply on the online admission portal. They need to fill up ‘Form 1’ which details personal and basic details of students and ‘Form 2’ which gives the merit details, course choices, college preferences and choice of subjects in various streams, which will be made available only after the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) board exam results have been declared.

This process usually begins in June after the results are declared and students wait till then. But this time, the education department has decided to begin the process early, so that students will have more time and delays in the admission process can be avoided.

Rajendra Ahire, deputy director of education, said, "We want students to fill Form 1 in May itself, so that once their results have been declared, they can immediately focus on filling Form 2. Now, students will not waste any time in filling personal details and can rather devote their energies to figuring out the stream, course, subjects and the college of their choice."

Last year, the FYJC process was delayed for three months as eight rounds had to be conducted till the last student, who had applied, secured admission. Both students and junior colleges were affected as it delayed the academic cycle, gave less time to students and teachers to prepare for first semester examinations and allowed admissions midway, even after the session had begun in July.

Ahire added, “We do not want to extend the process this year and aim at sticking to the academic calendar.”
