BRAHMOS missile achieves ‘Make in India’ successful­ly

Team BrahMos and DRDO carried out yet another flight test on May 22, 2018 from ITR, Balasore to prove major subsystems manufactur­ed indigenous­ly with Indian raw materials under ‘Make in India’.

The supersonic cruise missile, launched from a mobile autonomous launcher (MAL) at ITR Balasore, Odisha, flew successful­ly in its pre-set trajectory, fulfilling its mission objectives, officials who witnessed today’s launch confirmed. On May 21, life extension test firing was successful­ly carried out from static inclined launcher.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratula­ted team BrahMos and DRDO on this successful flight and mentioned that it is a big step ahead for Make in India in defence sector. “Through this launch, critical indigenous components including fuel management system and other non-metallic airframe components have been qualified to form part of missile,” Sudhir Mishra, Director General (BrahMos) and CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace, said after witnessing successful test launch of BRAHMOS.

Chairman DRDO and secretary department of Defence R&D congratula­ted team BrahMos and DRDO on the successful flight trial. The BRAHMOS weapon system, jointly developed by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPOM, has become as the weapon of choice of all the three branches of Indian armed force.
