MUMBAI: A man has been arrested while his accomplice fled after assaulting a policeman in Borivli (E) on June 12 midnight. An officer attached to the Kasturba Marg police station said constable Bhau Karande was attacked with an iron rod by a history-sheeter, Guddu Dubey. “Karande, dressed in civil clothes, stopped at a shop to purchase bottled water in Borivli (E), when he witnessed suspicious activity inside a car. A closer look revealed two men, allegedly consuming liquor inside. When Karande asked the duo to come out so that he could check the vehicle properly, Dubey, one of the men inside the car was infuriated, came out with an iron rod and assaulted him before fleeing,” the officer said. Karande was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is said to be stable. The police managed to arrest Dubey’s accomplice Jagdeep Kanta Prasad, who is said to be behind the wheel of the vehicle in which the duo were allegedly having liquor. The police have booked the duo – Dubey and Prasad — for assaulting public servant under relevant sections of IPC. The investigators are scrutinising the CCTV footage of the crime scene besides carrying out raids at his hideouts in and around city to nab Dubey. When the constable Sanjay Prabhu tried to stop them, the rider Akash Kahar, 22, lost his balance and the bike skidded off the road, seriously injuring Prabhu in the process.
