- STAFF REPORTER /

A constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been suspended after a video of him touching a woman inappropriately went viral on social media on Wednesday.

A senior officer said that Constable Rajesh Jahangir was posted at Kalyan police station and the matter was being investigated.

The video shows Jahangir touching the back of a woman who is apparently waiting with a companion at Kalyan railway station.

“As soon as we saw the video, we conducted an inquiry and immediately suspended the constable,” said Sachin Bhalode, Divisional Commissioner of Central Railways.

He further added that the incident occurred on June 18 in the waiting area of the Kalyan station.

Commuters at the railway platform noticed the constable touching the woman and raised an alarm. In the video, angry voices can be heard saying, “We should report the policeman and hand him over to the security men”. Some commuters even cornered the cop as he was trying to run away and thrashed him.

Bhalode said they had not received any complaint against the constable, but “based on the video, stern action will be taken against him”.

Outlining the measures taken for women’s safety, Bholade said, “We have deployed a Mahila Shakti team which is led by a woman constable and they are constantly on the move at the several railway stations”.
