Three of Cuffe Parade family commit suicide

Suicide note states that they were depressed after their daughter died of cancer just a few months’ back

- STAFF REPORTER

A family of three has committed suicide at Machhimar Colony at Cuffe Parade, according to police.

The bodies of Pravin Patel, 40, his wife Reena Pravin Patel, 35, and their son Prabhu Pravin Patel, 11, who committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling rod at their residence, were found on Friday. A suicide note has been found by the police.

The incident came to light on Friday at 1pm after the neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from their house.

According to Manoj Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1), “We had to break open the doors as they were locked from inside. We have recovered a suicide note left behind by the family. They had been depressed for the last few months, since their younger daughter died of cancer a few months ago. We suspect that they took this extreme step two days ago.”

Praveen was an electrician and the family had been residing in rental accommodation in Machhimar Colony for the last four years.

The Cuffe Parade police have registered an Accidental Death Record. The bodies have been sent for post mortem.
