Khar Gym teams sail into pre-quarters
Khar Gymkhana teams, KG ‘B’ and KC ‘C’, both comprising of talented young cueists, smoothly sailed into the prequarter-finals of the Otters Club Z3-BSAM Mumbai Snooker League 2018, at Otters Club Billiards Room.
In round of 32 matches, KG ‘B’ outclassed CG ‘Unpredictable’ 3-0 and KG ‘C’ boosted by the solid performances from the Mago siblings, Harmehr and Sumehr also charged to an authoritative 30 victory against Santacruz ‘Sunrisers’.
Both KG ‘B’ and KG ‘C’ joined their senior team KG ‘A’ in the next round.
After the doubles pairing of Sahil Kakad and Karan Rao (+30) tamed the Santacruz duo of Kalpesh Mevada and Nitesh Bhatia (+24) 72-31 in the 9-red doubles tie, Sumehr and Harmehr maintained the winning momentum as KG ‘C’ quickly crossed the finish line without any hiccups. Sumehr (+35) thumped Vipul Shah (+40) 102-61 and Harmehr Mago (+30) sidelined Amit Makhija (+50) 111-72.
KG ‘B’ was also dominant against the Catholic Gymkhana outfit and raced to an easy victory without much ado.
Khar Gym’s doubles team of Harish Pahuja and Sagar Kanjani (+26) outplayed the Catholic Gym pair of Mohan Shetty and Ralph Fernandes (+30) 84-45.
Later, Krieshh Gurbaxani (+30) complied a neat break of 46 to defeat Karl Vaz (+45) 10073 in the second frame before Arjun Tejwani (+35) overcame James Moon (+60) 117-105 to wrap things up.
Meanwhile, former champions BG ‘Phantoms’ marched to a 3-0 win against JVPG ‘White Lions’. Laxman Rawat was in good nick and constructed a break of 54 to score a 90-63 win over Veer Singh Nagi in the 15-red singles first frame and put Bombay Gymkhana in the front. Bombay Gym’s juggernaut rolled on by winning the next two frames to close out the match in their favour.
In the fourth match, ECC ‘Elfies Stars’ also came up with a strong winning combination and coasted to a stunning 3-0 win against a fancied CCI ‘X-Men’ to advance to the last 16 round.
