Karunanidhi stable, Alma mater prays

- DRAVIDA THAMBI

DMK president Karunanidhi, who was rushed to Kauvery Hospital from his house around 2 am on Saturday after his blood pressure dropped, remained in the Intensive Care Unit with doctors monitoring his health round-the-clock.

“Karunanidhi'’s health condition continues to remain stable with ongoing active medical support. He is continuously being monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors in the Intensive Care Unit,” a bulletin issued by the hospital executive director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj on Saturday night said.

Through the day, national and state political party leaders and family members kept walking in and out of the hospital inquiring about his progress.

Karunanidhi's daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi told journalists in the afternoon that he was “much better” now compared to Friday night when his family had to call for an ambulance and bring him down from the first floor on a stretcher.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami told journalists in Salem that the State government would be prepared to provide any medical assistance to the five-time Chief Minister and 13-time MLA should his family seek for it. Interestingly, over the past two days, many AIADMK leaders who have always addressed the DMK leader by his name instead of his political title ''Kalaignar'' thanks to his intense rivalry with their leader Jayalalithaa, have been generously wishing him a speedy recovery.
