Two key witnesses depose before the special CBI court

- AYESHA SHAIKH

On Thursday in the Sohrabuddin encounter case two significant witnesses deposed in the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, the duo were not declared not hostile although the statements of the second witness differed from the statement he had given to the Judicial Magistrate.

Witness Sudhir Joshi described how he had constituted a team to arrest Tulsiram Prajapati while he was staying in Bhilwara by the name of Sameer, but he further retracted from his statements by saying the arrest date was on November 29, 2005 whereas he had said he had arrested him on November 26, 2005 before the Magistrate.

The prosecution lawyer did not question him on his statements he had given before the magistrate although Judge S J Sharma had told him that if he finds his statements to be contradictory he may ask him but the prosecution lawyer denied whereas earlier the prosecution had questioned Ranvijay Singh, Bhawar Singh Haada and Himmat Singh from their they had given before the magistrate and had declared them hostile.

Meanwhile, Hinglaaj while supporting his earlier statements affirmed that he had received a complaint letter from Tulsiram Prajapati through National Human Rights Commisions (NHRC) regarding the assault happening with him in Central Jail of Udaipur which was forwarded by him to the correspondent to take necessary action, further he said he knew Tulsiram as he was in judicial custody and he had escaped while he was being got through train from Ahemadabad court.

He also said that he got to know about his encounter through newspapers and here-say discussion among police but in his cross examination he said he got to know about his encounter from Police control room, Udaipur who had been informed by Government Railway Police(GRP) Ahemadabad.
