STALIN VISITS SHOP TO CONSOLE ‘KARUNANIDHI’

- OUR CORRESPONDENT /

As DMK president M Karunanidhi lay on his hospital bed on Thursday, his son and party working president M K Stalin quietly made a 12 kilometre trip to small biriyani joint in Valasaravakkam to meet the patriarch's namesake, employed as a server, and his owner to “console them” after the restaurant was attacked by DMK cadres following a fight over biriyani two days ago.

On Tuesday night, a group of DMK youth wing cadres led by one Yuvaraj, had entered the small restaurant and demanded that they must be served biriyani. When the owner Tamilselvan informed that the restaurant had run out of biriyani, Yuvaraj, a boxer by occupation, got angry and began to vandalise the shop and attacked the staff. Tamilselvan and an employee named Karunanidhi sustained injuries on their nose after being punched by Yuvaraj.

The incident would have been buried but for CCTV footage from the shop that showed Yuvaraj and his henchmen running loose. As the video clip went viral on television news channels and social media on Thursday, it brought in bad publicity for the DMK and the party leadership immediately suspended Yuvaraj and others.

Not stopping with this, Stalin, who has been busy since last Saturday meeting numerous VIPs who keep arriving at the Kauvery Hospital to inquire about his father's health, found time to visit the biriyani shop and console Tamilselvan and Karunanidhi. He was accompanied by former Minister A Raja.
