Two bikers ‘attack’ Rupali Ganguly

The Versova police have arrested two persons for abusing TV actress Rupali Ganguly after Ganguly’s car brushed past the motorcycle in front of her. The accused smashed the car window and abused Ganguly in filthy language. The actress was accompanie­d along with two women and her five-year-old son who were travelling in the car at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at 8:20 am while Ganguly was on her way to drop her son to school. Ganguly was stuck in traffic at Versova when her car touched the bike. The accused approached Ganguly’s car and broke the glass with a punch. They also abused her in filthy language. According to Ganguly’s account of the incident on Twitter, “I went with my crying child, straight to Versova police station to file a FIR. Witnessing the state of my car and me bleeding, people stood there watching two women and a child being attacked in a car. They all stood there and witnessed

the tamasha. No one came to help or intervene.” The actress stated that for the first time in her her life, she experience­d road rage. She could not note down the registrati­on number of the bike and did not take any pictures. “My only agenda was to get my petrified son and his caretaker to safety,” added Ganguly.

In another post on Twitter, Ganguly said, “Wish he would put his strength to better use than scaring women and children. true #spiritofmu­mbai I found in @mumbaipoli­ce! Thank you so much was restoring my child’s faith that police will punish the bad guy. The Versova police has nabbed the culprits! I don’t know how they did it but incredibly they had the accused in front of me to identify!!! #Kudos and #milliontha­nks @MumbaiPoli­ce! Only one woman on a bike and two women in a rickshaw came later and offered to help us!!! #women!!! Ravindra Badgujar, senior police inspector, Versova police, said, “The incident has been captured on CCTV cameras. Nobody has been injured. The accused lost their temper and abused the actress. A First Informatio­n Report (FIR) has been registered on Saturday evening. The accused have been arrested.”

The accused have been arrested for word, gesture or act to insult the modesty of a woman (Section 509) and common intention (Section 34) of the Indian Penal Code.
