Time to launch ‘Chale Jao’ andolan against BJP govt, says Cong

The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Ashok Chavan and Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirpuam on Thursday urged people to unite against the current BJP government to achieve independence in the true sense. The Congress workers led by Chavan undertook a ‘Tiranga March’ on the occasion of August Kranti Day, which marks the historic Quit India Movement.

This march coincided with the bandh called by Maratha outfits on Thursday, against the BJP government's failing assurances to provide them with reservations.

Chavan in his speech said the BJP government does not care about the plight of Marathas. “Maharashtra is witnessing a bandh amidst the reservations stir today (Thursday). The plight of other communities isn’t any different from that of the Marathas. There is a rising sense of discontentment among the people. They don’t feel secure anymore. We can’t establish peace in the country unless the BJP Govt is overthrown,” said Chavan.

While addressing hundreds of party workers and Seva Dal members at the August Kranti Maidan, Nirupam said, “It was on this day in the year 1942 that Mahatma Gandhi, along with other prominent leaders, asked the British to leave the country. But even after 70 years of independence, we haven’t achieved true independence.”

The Congress leaders highlighted the worsening situation for those opposing the government or raising a voice against the ills. "People are being lynched in broad daylight. Innocent people are being looted while Rafale is the biggest scam the country and government has failed to give a concrete answer," said Nirupam.

It is about time that we call for a ‘Chale Jao’ Andolan against the current BJP Govt in order to free the nation from its increasing atrocities and injustice against its own people. We have to unitedly fight against the BJP Govt and establish an atmosphere of social justice in our country once again”.

The senior Congress leader also paid homage to the martyrs who lost their lives for August Kranti also known as the Quit India Movement in 1942.
