Cops turn nannies, reunite missing kid with parents in five hours

Used to handling hardened criminals with an iron fist, for a change, Mira Road Police found themselves wearing 'kid gloves' and not only played babysitters to a lost child, but also ensured he was reunited with parents in less than five hours.

Identified as Arshan Khan, the child lost his way while playing near his home in Sheetal Nagar. None of the passersby, nor the hundreds of motorists who zoomed past him noticed or worried about taking the child to safety. Luckily for him, PSI Shailjeet Kasture who was returning home after duty was informed about the unaccompanied boy, near Don Bosco School.

The child was too scared to talk and could not provide any clues about his address, prompting Kasture to take him to the police chowky. To put him at ease, on-duty police turned babysitters, giving him chocolate and promising him a toy scooter. Meanwhile, police personnel Girase and Raorane checked all nearby police stations for missing cases.

Unsuccessful in their attempt, the duo then decided to explore localities close to the spot where the child was found. After nearly five hours, a man, who turned out to be the boy’s uncle, recognized him. “I am proud of my personnel who responded positively to the situation and worked tirelessly to ensure that the child was reunited with his family.” said Sr Police Inspector Vasant Labdhe.

The family was searching for the missing kid and were about to go to the police station to register a complaint. After duly verifying their identity and credentials, police handed over the custody of the child to his parents, sending him home with the promised toy scooter.
