Among the gen­eral pop­u­la­tion, chil­dren have a higher risk of de­vel­op­ing asthma, with nearly 20 to 30 per cent of newly di­ag­nosed cases be­ing pae­di­atric. Apart from this, the over­all in­ci­dence rate of new asthma cases in Mum­bai stands at 25 per cent, with one-third of Mum­baikars prone to de­velop the con­di­tion.Peo­ple in the 20-40 age group are at a higher risk of de­vel­op­ing this res­pi­ra­tory con­di­tion. Smok­ers are at a high risk of de­vel­op­ing asthma.
