War­rant is­sued to pro­duce Sasikala in FERA vi­o­la­tion case

CHENNAI (Tamil Nadu): A spe­cial ED court has is­sued a war­rant to pro­duce All In­dia Anna Dravida Mun­netra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader VK Sasikala be­fore it in a For­eign Ex­change Reg­u­la­tion Act (FERA) vi­o­la­tion case. The En­force­ment Direc­torate (ED) had ear­lier booked Sasikala and her rel­a­tive V Bhaskaran for al­legedly pur­chas­ing equip­ment for a TV chan­nel in 1996 from a for­eign coun­try where they ap­par­ently routed pay­ments via il­le­gal means. Sasikala is cur­rently serv­ing a jail term af­ter she was con­victed in a dis­pro­por­tion­ate as­set case and lodged in Parap­pana Agra­hara cen­tral, Ben­galuru. She was sup­posed to ap­pear be­fore the court on Novem­ber 30. How­ever, the prison au­thor­i­ties re­port­edly failed to pro­duce her due to health rea­sons.
