Commuter falls from train, alert motorman rescues

An alert Central Railway motorman rescued an injured commuter lying on the tracks between Ghatkopar and Kurla and get him prompt medical attention on Tuesday morning. The victim was identified as Umar Farookh Juber Ahmad Sheikh(29), a resident of Mumbra.

According to victim’s cousin Ebad Ahmad, Umar had boarded a semi-fast local from Mumbra, but when a train crossed Ghatkopar station he fell down from the running train.

“When Sheikh fell from the train the motorman of another fast train spotted him and with the help of a train guard and few passengers they handed him over to the superinten­dent of Kurla station. Luckily my brother was saved and the prompt action was taken by the motorman to get him timely treatment,” said Ebad.

Sanjay Chaudhary, who was driving a fast local train said he when he saw someone lying on the tracks, he immediatel­y applied the emergency brakes and informed the guard of the train about the victim. “The victim was immediatel­y removed from the track and was sent to the Rajawadi Hospital for the treatment. Later he was shifted to KEM hospital for further treatment,” added Chaudhary.

Vidya Thakur, medical superinten­dence, Rajawadi hospital said the immediate treatment was given to the patient, but in CT scan report it was revealed he has sustained a severe head injury for which he needs intensive care.
