Driver held for raping teenage girl

-

MUMBAI: Agripada police arrested a 40-year-old driver on Monday evening for raping a 19year-old girl for several months. The accused, identified as Sharadprasad Bind, was a distant relative of the teenager and was residing in the same building as the girl's family. A case of rape was registered on January 11, after which Bind fled the city. Bind was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the IPC pertaining to rape.

Bind, who works as a driver in a private company, had come to Mumbai several months ago from UP. Since he knew the victim's family, he contacted them and they helped him get accommodation in the same building. A few months ago, Bind began calling the teenager to his house under the pretext of helping him with the daily chores and began raping her. Bind threatened her to keep quiet. However, after the teenager began experiencing nausea, headache, giddiness and excruciating pain in her stomach and abdomen, her mother asked if something wrong had happened to her. The teenager then confided in her mother and revealed the sequence of events. Shocked by the revelation, teenager's mother filed an FIR on January 11.

When Bind found out that the teenager had approached the police, he fled the city and took shelter in Surat, only to return to Mumbai two days before. A police officer said, "Acting on a tip-off, we laid a trap near Jogeshwari and arrested Bind on Monday."
