Day 4 of fast: 3 Farmer daughters lose weight

-

The daughters of farmers, who have been on a hunger strike for the last four days, have lost weight. They are sitting on an andolan in Puntambe village. The villagers in support of the girls declared a shutdown on Wednesday. The girls have lost two kgs each in the last three days.

Even schoolgirls came out in their support and staged a black flag protest around the village. They shouted slogans against the ‘cruel government’ and extended support to the movement.

Frustrated at the government failing to keep its promises made over one and a half years ago, the daughters of the farmers — Shubhangi Jadhav, Nikita Jadhav and Poonam Jadhav — called for an elgar (revolution). The state has so far turned a blind eye to their protests.

The district collector, Manek Aher, and the police inspector, Arun Pardeshi, went to the protest site and talked to the girls. They assured the protesting girls of conveying their grievances to the government. However, it has not been reassured to the trio. They said, “We hold the government responsible if anything happens to us.”
