Mahul residents get cold shoulder from civic chief

-

MUMBAI: A group of citizens displaced by BMC projects and relocated to Mahul, met civic chief Ajoy Mehta to discuss their relocation to empty flats belonging to the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects in Mumbai. However, nothing came out of the meet as Mehta said the colonies were reserved for the projectdisplaced in upcoming projects.

According to Bilal Khan, an activist from the Ghar Bachao Ghar Banao Andolan, “The commissioner said empty SRA and MMRDA flats are reserved for different projects of the city and already relocated citizens cannot be shifted from Mahul. The meet was initially scheduled for 4pm, but the BMC forgot about it. As many residents were present, Mehta was compelled to conduct the meet.”

“The meet was attended by cops. No MMRDA or SRA official was. The commissioner is not concerned about the deplorable conditions people live in in Mahul,” he claimed.
