Infighting withing the Congress has begun to crop up in the state. First, the differences between former South Mumbai MP Milind Deora and the party’s city unit chief, Sanjay Nirupam, came out in the open, with Deora telling a news channel he was not sure if he wanted to contest the Lok Sabha election on Tuesday. Now, news of bickering in the Nagpur Congress unit has come to the fore.

To stop the infighing within the party, the Congress spokesperson in Nagpur, Sandesh Singalkar, has come up with an innovative idea. Singalkar has written to Rahul Gandhi, the All India Congress Committee president, to allow his sister Priyanka to contest from Nagpur constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

After the back-to-back setbacks to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in recent five state assembly polls, Singalkar has advised Rahul if he wanted to give the Congress an edge over others, especially the BJP, in Nagpur, he should field his sister. Singalkar said since the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), the parent outfit of the BJP, is in Nashik, Priyanka would be the best candidate to cash in on the people’s discontent.
